  • How long will it take for my child to learn to swim?
It is impossible to estimate the number of lessons necessary for a child to learn to swim. Many factors affect the learning process including a child's age, a child's initial comfort in the water which can be affected by past experiences, a child's physical development, as well as frequency and consistency of lessons to name a few. Your instructor will continuously keep you informed on progress as well as things to work on to maintain progress.
  • What if my child cries?
It is common for a child to have fears about the water, new people and experiences or putting their face in the water. Some have past trauma. Our instructors are trained to work through emotions and fears in a calm, patient and gentle manner. We have many strategies to work through these feelings. A Parent can help their child limit their fears by utilizing a growth mindset and positive language when speaking about the pool and swimming. Eg. Instead of saying "if you jump in the pool without me, you will drown" we can say "You can't swim yet and still need my help, please wait for me before getting in the pool". By changing our language we can promote learning without fear and anxiety.
  • Should my child wear goggles?
We like to teach without goggles initially. If a child happens to fall in a pool, they most likely will not be prepared and wearing goggles. For this reason, we do not want to create a dependence on them. During shorter lessons, the chlorine should not affect the eyes much. For longer lessons or in certain special circumstances, we may allow goggles for a portion of the lesson. After a child is proficient in swimming across the pool, they may use goggles for comfort as needed.
  • How warm should the pool be?
To promote comfort and prevent tension within the body, a warm pool is necessary. We typically recommend a temperature between 88-90 degrees.
  • How do you define "water safety"?
We believe that no one is ever truly safe in and around the water. Accidents are always possible and children should, therefore, always be supervised by a capable adult.
